Hendrik Uiterwyk
Former Partner & Trial Attorney
Hendrik, “Henk”, Uiterwyk passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 (after a brief illness). Henk lived and worked vibrantly throughout his life.
A respected trial and injury lawyer, Henk successfully tried over a hundred jury trials during his nearly forty-year career. Henk took and won cases others could not settle. He loved challenging cases and his passion was focusing on cases with big injuries and difficult liability. Many of his trial opponents comment on Henk being a “fearless litigator who did not give up.”
A founding partner of Abrahamson & Uiterwyk, Henk attended college and law school in New Orleans at Tulane University (B.A., 1968; J.D., 1970). Through his career Henk trained and mentored countless young (and now successful) attorneys in the Tampa Bay Area. An active and generous member of the Florida Justice Association since 1985, Henk served on the Board of Directors and various other leadership roles.
In 2017, Henk received the prestigious “Jon E. Krupnick Award”, awarded each year to a trial lawyer whose efforts reflect relentless commitment and perseverance to seek justice through all obstacles encountered. This award was fitting tribute for how Henk served all of his clients.
Henk was an active member of numerous local organizations and believed in giving back to his community. He worked hard, lived fully, and loved his family deeply. When not working, Henk was happiest being with his wife and family, especially when traveling.
Henk’s leadership, legal skills, tenacity, friendship, and presence are missed by so many, both in and out of our law firm.
